Manhunt 2 (Wii)

I want to play a game...

Now the Wii isn't considered as being the technical powerhouse of the next generation of gaming, and it was striking to see how it hasn't been released for either the PS3 or the Xbox 360. Nonetheless, Rockstar did an alright job in terms of presentation. For visuals, there's a lot of clipping and the camera gets stuck a lot, especially when you're trying to manoeuvre stealthily around walls. This can lead to a lot of confusion when you want to hide from cover, but instead you pin yourself against a wall right in your enemy's line of sight. Minus the glitches though, the visuals are alright considering what the creators had to work with. The level design is great and the haunting atmosphere must be experienced to truly understand, but the censorship is what hurts the game in this respect.

Nothing was held back in regards to audio. Not only does Manhunt 2 have an engaging storyline, but the dialogue is well done too. Expect to hear a lot of cussing and abusive language, which is great so long as everybody in your room is mature enough to handle it. Sound plays a crucial part to the gameplay, so it would've been cheap for Rockstar to skimp out here. Whether you're hurling a brick at somebody's head or decapitating a corpse with an axe, everything sounds spot on in a disturbing sense.

Conclusion

Even if Manhunt 2 has been toned down a bit, gamers new to the series will have a hard time fathoming this. Despite censorship, there's still a great level of gore and you're likely to feel cruel and sadistic for a majority of this game. Granted the controls can get finicky at times and the AI isn't as challenging as it should be, but if you have a general idea of what to expect you'll like what Manhunt 2 has to offer.

Scores

Gameplay 75 While it’s not to say that this game won’t satisfy your thirst for blood, the blurry execution sequences leave something to be desired. You’ll still get a decent amount of blood and guts, but it’s obvious that this game could’ve delivered a lot more.
Graphics 75 The graphics are acceptable especially considering the non HD format of the Wii.
Sound 85 While the visuals were turned down, it's great to hear just how well done the sound effects are. Even if you have a hard time seeing a hunter's head get sawed off, the noises you hear will be more than enough to make you cringe.
Value 75 The story will take you a good chunk of time, and the alternate endings can help warrant a replay through. However, the game can feel repetitive due to its ease and linear nature.
Multiplayer N/A N/A

Even though it's not nearly as groundbreaking as the original, this doesn't mean that Manhunt 2 is a bad game. Sure it has its fair share of quirks, but the sense of stealth coupled with the bloody nature can leave a lasting impression. Newcomers and those familiar with the Manhunt series should both be satisfied here.
