The Future of EVE Online

We had the chance to talk to Magnus Bergsson, Chief Marketing Officer of CCP, who was kind enough to share some information about the upcoming changes that the players of EVE online should expect, and that will undoubtedly attract new players to the MMO. There are two major content updates on the way, and a graphical update that should give the four-year old EVE a major facelift .

Unfortunately there is no official release date for the graphical update package yet (there were murmurs of Vista video card drivers causing problems... -Ed), since CCP decided to go with a complete rehaul of their engine instead of upgrading the earlier builds. Users of Windows Vista with DX10 compliant hardware can expect outstanding visuals, completely redone models, whilst surprisingly also offering improved performance.

A separate expansion pack (Revelations II) should also be available before the summer, focusing mostly on Player owned Structures. These should become an integral part of the game, and will receive a lot of new uses. Alliances will be able to gain sovereignty over areas, and generally the entire game experience will be even more community driven than it is already.

More Revelations!

What we heard about Revelations II sounds fantastic in itself, but it is only the preparation for the next expansion, Revelations III. RIII should include massive warfare scenarios, whilst solving the current issues such as overpowered Corporations "pwning" (to quote Magnus) less experienced players.

A separate project, called the Ampulation project, is supposed to bring the player closer to his/her ingame avatar, by making the ships exitable and thereby giving every player a true personification in the game instead of an image appearing on yor HUD.

Eve looks like a hot commodity this Summer. Watch this space for screenshots of the DX10 client!
