Remedy Interview - Part 1: "Life After Success"

By: Nick Evanson Mar 07, 2007

Finland, a relatively small and cold country located in north of Europe, is perhaps most famous for things like Nokia mobile phones, the home of Santa Claus, mämmi (a Finnish Easter dish which is rather unpleasant) and polar bears walking around in the capital city. In addition to these very jolly and fascinating details, there is still one more thing, or rather a company, which makes Finns feel proud of themselves: a very successful game development business with a long history; dedicated to creating story-driven games and has already shipped two block-buster games to millions of gamers. Yes, you guessed correct; we are talking about Remedy Entertainment.

YouGamers were kindly invited to visit Remedy's offices and sit down with Markus Mäki and Petri Järvilehto to talk about how it all started, how things changed after the amazing Max Payne & Max Payne 2 and, of course, as the icing on the cake, to also talk about their upcoming title Alan Wake for Xbox 360 and Windows Vista. The two gentlemen are a part of the very core of Remedy (two of the founders, no less) and their job is to make sure that whatever comes out from the oven is crisp, perfectly spiced and has a long lasting good aftertaste. They were also kind enough to let us take some photos of their office, so prepare for some delicacies never seen before!

In this first episode of our trilogy interview, we will concentrate on how things changed after the mega success Remedy had with their current biggest hits; we also have some exclusive info on how the development has changed since making two games using the same engine and how difficult it is to start from scratch (yes they really did!).

Enough of this, let's switch to second gear!
