After Resistance, Red Hammer, Elite, ARMA and even VBS1 Codemasters is finally ready to announced the actual sequel to the 2001 hit Operation Flashpoint. Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising, coming in 2008 for both PC and “major consoles”, ditches the cold war setting of the original and instead depicts a fictional modern day conflict between Russia and China – hence the name. The trailer looks pre-rendered but it could also be in-game with a lot of post processing and doesn’t reveal much about actual gameplay. Anyway, its great see that the recent trends in casual gaming and bad console FPS’s haven’t scared all the publishers away from the realistic shooter market.

I was a huge fan of the original's realistic take on modern warfare and sure hope the console ports won’t force too much of a compromise between realism and console market accessibility. What about you?
