This happens to me all the time with Steam games.

One thing I'd love for checking performance - a FPS indicator. I hate using FRAPS, as it always feels like it slows things down a bit.

Does SSAO make a noticeable difference if you don't pay attention to whatever it exactly does?

I only ask because I had to turn it off to get smooth fps as I can only run the game on 1920x1080 due to a glitch with my RADEON HD4850

(Don't get it wrong it's a glitch I have in all games not just Shattered Horizon^^)

And yes, FRAPS is indeed a performance killer, I noticed it alot with Crysis

I use EVGA precision,
it has an overlay setting, but only works with Nvidia GPUs

Thanks staffers for the info. Ambient occlusion rapes my 295 in certain areas. aa on 8 is suicide. 2-4 works well.

Wow a game that rapes a 295?

I guess they are competeing with Arma in terms of most demanding specs for simple application.

Weird... my pair of GTX 260s handles AO just fine, and a GTX 295 should be in that ballpark. What res are you running at?

1680-1050, everything maxed, vsync off, aa on 2, ao off. this is 100% smooth. I could turn ao on, and get minor frame rate drops occasionally, but I'd rather not. I could also turn aa to 4, but I don't want to risk the possibility of going below 60 fps.

Any estimates on how much GPU ram is actually being used here?

This feature is now implemented with the latest patch. Press F4 to activate/deactivate the on-screen FPS counter.

BTW, my below setup gives me around 35-60 FPS, with following settings:
RES: 1440x900
Textures: Max
Shaders and Shadows: Max (looks very bad if that is not cranked up, IMO)
AO: OFF
AA: OFF
VSYNC: OFF
Post-Processing: SPEED
