Default Remedy Interview - Part 3: "The Power Behind Wake"

In addition to creating story-driven, high action games, Remedy Entertainment have always taken the best aspects of the latest graphics technology and used them to generate realistic and detailed scenes. With their forthcoming title, Alan Wake, they've raised their own bar by throwing out almost everything they did before and started from scratch! Read the final part of our interview and see how they approached the challenge of creating the power behind Wake.

I know the release date is "when its done", but by the stage of their development, are they almost done? We haven't heard from them for almost a year! Remedy needs to speak up to the public about the development stage they are in right now.

Yes its true that Remedy needs to speak up about the game, we haven't heard anything from them in a long while.
Remedy's stance is that they will release the game when they are satisfied with the quality of the game. So there is more to the "When its done" statement than many people realise. One of Remedy's goals was to make a AAA game and that is exactly what they intend to do. The length of development is a secondary priority.
The latest estimate we heard was from the Microsoft Global PR manager who stated that Alan Wake is among games that will be released in 2008. While this is probably an estimate, there's no doubt we will hear more about the development before then.

So what's the latest on Alan Wake? Will we be seeing any more previews of the game in the run up to the holidays, perhaps at Leipzig in 2 weeks time? News of a release date? Free Hat? I know..."It's done when it's done", but damnit I'm an impatient man.

I know them Remedy guys stop by the boards occasionally, they can't hid forever!

I personally haven't heard of any news of Leipzig demo. If there is one, it's probably going to be behind closed doors.

I personally would expect this to be mid-late 2008 release. Sadly. Late 2007 stuff should already be well into hype-mode, and early 2008 also seems bit unlikely as it's rapidly getting close to a point where early 2008 titles start to gear up for the hype.

My completely unscientific guess? May 2008-June 2008.

I figured that 2007 was way out the question, in fact I think an MS spokesperson said it was going to be 2008 a few months back. But I was kind of hoping for a Q1 2008 release. Its hard to gauge when very little about the game has made it out into the public domain.

Darn it, I want more info on the game...*stamps feet like a child*
