Default Crysis

The waiting, the hype, the rumours, the specs - it's nearly all done. Next month will see the release of Crytek's second game, Crysis, and a small number of journalists were given the final EU preview of what's to come. We were one of the lucky few and here's our hands-on report on this graphics Godzilla.

Hmm, so close to release and no word on DX10 performance - I can only surmise that this means bad news on that front :(

edit: I'm not even asking for the heavens - I just hope that with a system like a 3Ghz C2Q, 8800GTX, 2GB ram and Vista x64 can run the game at on Very High 1280*720 w/ 2xAA without dropping framerates to the sub 30s (excluding the hdd loading)

No, the reason that they havenīt showed anything particular in directx 10, is because they want to show, how good it can look (and be) on lesser computers. This means, that if you have dx10, you are garantueed at least the same as the highest dx9 pc. But you have dx10, and that means, that everything else is getter better. In graphics of course.

I think you bought into the marketing propaganda a bit too much, if it ran well on dx10 with a 8800 GTX then we WOULD hear about it, because Nvidia would sell more units and it looks good on Crytek.

But when a game company is so tight lipped about the performance of their game, and especially like this on the look-forward to Dx10, it almost ALWAYS means bad news for the players. Take for example they still don't play it on Dx10 at public shows even with the latest hardware, thats obviously for a reason.

My guess is that if you want to play it at a good res, 2x AA, and Very High settings, you're going to have to buy 9X00 series coming out from Nvidia.

I just wonder how it'll perform with a 1950Pro, anyone know how ATI performs with Crysis?

I'm going to agree here. Some journos have said the game is sluggish on very top-end hardware (overclocked quad-cores with dual 8800GTX cards), and from the context I gather they were talking about the DX9 version.

Tidbits like that, coupled with all of Crytek's talk about the game (paraphrasing here) "scaling well and still looking great in five years", and I get the impression that it's just not running well at the highest settings under DX10 on current hardware.

Maybe it's a new paradigm in graphics engines, where an engine (and the content) are so scalable that even the best contemporary hardware won't top out the engine's capabilities.

Getter better i like that part but unfortunately almost certainly you're wrong. They haven't shown it run in DX10 because it runs like utter poop IMO and knocking down a few graphical features such as Texture quality and such would make it look no better than Hi-Quality DX9 or even worse. I'd be very happy if the next-gen DX10/10.1 will be able to deliver acceptable performance (60fps) at say, 1680x1050 with 4xAA/8xAF and High details.

It runs okay, I tried the demo out at a friends house on his p00r-ass machine, and it looked okay. Load time were much faster
