Default Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts

Opposing Fronts is an expansion pack to Company of Heroes, last year's Game of the Year candidate. It's no small expansion, either: compared to the original's single campaign and two multiplayer factions, Opposing Fronts contains two new campaigns and two additional factions. We take a closer look at these, as well as the game's new DirectX 10 features and performance.

No mention of the onerous "copy protection" that Relic have foisted on everybody that forces you to log in to their servers in order to play single player? Not everyone likes being coerced, Relic, and pooh-poohing the people who complain about it on your forums is getting you nowhere.

Thanks for bringing this up. You can play single player without logging in or having an internet connection, as long as you have the dvd. Steam customers can't, which is a major oversight. Also, the latest patches seem to have broken support for custom maps in multiplayer games, which could kill a pretty active modding community.

I've sent an email to THQ (they handle Relic's media relations) asking about these issues, and I'll update the review once I get a response.

Yeah, losing the custom maps was a bummer. I dl'ed a couple of nice custom maps only to lose them after installing OF. Oh well....

Should also point out that this is a standalone title, not an expansion pack.

Did you look at page 2? From the very top:

Stand-alone expansion

Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts follows the modular approach Relic took with Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War's expansions. The pack is essentially a stand-alone game, although at a slightly reduced retail price of $40 / £30.

I'm referring to the original post in this thread. People may not get as far as clicking the link to the review if they haven't got the original game and the above makes them think they need it to play this one.

That's my fault for not being 100% sharp with the intro - apologies to everyone concerned.
