Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
Fantasy RPG is one of the best-explored genres of gaming today. Only one game series, however, currently holds the most prestigious licence in all of fantasy role-playing: Dungeons & Dragons. The saga of Neverwinter Nights continues with the newest expansion, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer.

Yup, the whole site is one satirical exercise... Come on, you knew exactly what he meant by the comment: the scenery is simply a facade; there's no real level of interaction or ability to explore it. Even the lowliest of RPGs permit that today.

The review comments that you have the RPG cliche amnesia in Mask of the Betrayer. But you don't.
|
Not 100% "I don't even know what feet are for amnesia" but you do wake up without knowing how you arrived at the start or the events that made it so - and that is the classic RPG (or any game, for that matter) cliché.

You're right, it's not made by 3DRealms - it's made by Obsidian Entertainment. The screw up was that our database had the publisher as 3DRealms not Atari, for some stupid reason (and has nothing to do with the reviewer, either). But hey, it's easier to be rude and insulting, than being polite, isn't it?

Re: Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
Everybody is entitled to their opinion on a review - after all, there are a subjective analysis of a product, and not a 100% objective one. But there's various ways and means of expressing an opinion: don't like the score, comments and thoughts in a review? Fine by me. Think that gives you every right to insult the reviewer (especially when the fault being criticised has nothing to do with the reviewer in the first place)? Not in the least bit. As what other people think on other sites, that's their issue, not ours.

yes. you can't move a dish in the game where the dish is the least thing that should interest the player - therefore the game sucks. Yougamer is pressing the horrible truth down your throats here!

it's not PCs fault that he slept through all of the action and there is no CNN in that age.

Where did we say the game sucks because of this? We said that this level of static environment, in this age of gaming, isn't good enough when the likes of Oblivion was doing several years ago.

Perhaps, but you've got to blame somebody . I wonder what an RPG version of CNN would be like?

Thanks for taking such a keen interest in my review! If you keep dissecting it, I'm sure more interesting bits will pop out.
Let me just try and clear one misunderstanding. Forget about dishes, cutlery, bottles or whatever. By "visual prop" I mean all the outdoor areas where you can't walk, just because the map has a very small accessible area. Want to see what's beyond that hill? Well you can't, because it's not a hill, it's just a prop. Tramping back and forth between the same few locations in a severely limited game world made me feel like I was playing a 1980s Sierra adventure game.
I loved Sierra adventure games by the way. Many of them had great writing and a lot of substance. But Quest for Glory II wouldn't get a very high review score from me if someone were to publish it today.
Edit: Here is another take on Mask of the Betrayer, from the good people of The Codex Forums. MotB gets a thumbs up and the review is quite entertaining, but be warned that it contains quite a few spoilers as well.
