Re: 2007 in PC Hardware
Thanks for the data of market share. But...
What are best graphic cards for gamers?
Have new ATI 3870 512Mb better Futuremark scores than 8800 GT 512, with almost the same price.
What are the best processor // card performances, and price performances for gaming?
Are Crossfire (2x3870) better than SLI (2x8800GT)?
in Linux OpenGL, in XP DX9, in Xp OpenGL , in Vista DX9, in Vista DX10 and in Vista OpenGL, & perhaps with iAtkos making some tests too for Leopard?
Is this market share information relevant, or it would be better
What should I buy?
Processor // 3870 512vs 8800 GT 512 that are the two cards with high performance and good price at this moment.
And, of course, What are the benchmarks for DX10 and DX9 new and hungry games?
Must we wait next generation of gamecards for playing with a reasonable FPS todays games?
My conclusion after reading a lot is ATI has better future cards that score less with yesterday software, but leads the DX10 tests, and crossfire is much better thatn SLI for Vista. Nvidia Linux drivers are much better than ATI ones, but ATI is improving a lot their Linux drivers. ATI is better for Leopard.
Intel is much better than AMD for games, Asus is going to make a lot of money with their Linux (for troubles) flashed mainboards, some others as Gygabite are as good, and cheaper, even they have less hardware on their mb, but SplashTop must be incorporated as soon as possible to next motherboards because of the troubles that Vista will cause, and it is necessary for new DX10 games.
But being a pioneer can be your fail for ATI, because Nvidia has better hardware for old games, and 2008, perhaps they will have, then a hardwate to beat ATI DX10 scores, with a lot of cash made with best DX9 cards and near DX10 best ones.
In the near future, perhaps OpenGL, cross plattform tests should tell us more about hardware and drivers than DX ones and there are one called Lightsmark (OpenGL test) that I know is working on it.
