How many systems did you test this on?

Here are my specs...

AMD 4800+ dual core
2 Gigs Corsair Value Select ddr2 400
8800 GTS
Windows Vista 64 bit.

Game runs smoothly with the exception of slow texture loading in two zones with the following settings:

Textures Maxed.
View Distance 250 meters
Bloom Off
Shader 3.0
AA 16q
Shadows: Myself Only
Ground Textures Maxed.
Water Maxed.
Sound: High.

I don't know if I'm the exception or the rule. I'm wondering if you know either.

I should also note that both my cores are utilized with similar loads while playing.

I'm not too surprised - you have shadows and draw distance cut down. You also didn't mention the resolution - all my testing was done at 1600x1200 resolution.

It should be noted that the game is smooth in some areas even at max high settings - I just picked the "worst case" (Old Tarantia) to figure out which settings are the ones that harm it.

The conclusion still stands: at maximum settings, some areas lag no matter what system you really have... and most settings don't really do anything (you can max them without problems) as the only ones that really do cut down the FPS are shadows and draw distance.

On dual core (FX-62) I also noticed that it used one core at 100%, second at 70-80%. It appears that the rendering engine is pushed to one core while the rest is on second - the disappointing bit is that quads are not used (at all?)

Game runs fine for me. 1920 rez - max details - draw distances adjusted to fine tune performance.

Guess you could take into consideration the scalable settings and perhaps realize that there is a limit to all systems.

I have identical system but a Core 2 running at 3.2Ghz and I call Shens. How are you checking resources and how your system is being used? Are you using another monitor to run Everest and the other while you are gaming. Because as I have learned, you can't do the ALT-TAB and check. Soon as you do that, Windows drops the game down to low priority and the resources it is using. The only real way to check in game resource use is to use a second monitor to monitor Cpu and memory usage with Everest(or like program) like I did. On my C2D, the game was using 85% of one core, and 15% on the other with it moving either way by -+5%. Myself being a former AMD +4400 owner, I can tell you there is no way in hell your 4800+ is gonna beat a C2D at 3.2Ghz in ANY GAME. NEVER. Specially with both matched up to a 8800GTS 640MB or the 512 Version.

1920 rez, max details on a 4800+? Like I said, I call Shens.. What a crock.

I average 25-45FPS @ 1920x1200 with high details, 2x FSAA and bloom off 7800m draw distance...

My PC is a modest 8800GT and Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz tho

Funny that you say it has bad performance, do we really need 8x AA and max shadows? no..

I'm running a Q6600 8800gts 640mb Vista 32 bit and 3gb ram (All stock)

Settings are high with no shadows and max view distance. I get 45-85 fps outdoors, 35 fps in towns and 110-170 fps in caves. That's really nothing to complain about. AA is off but AF is 16x (1440x900)

If you want to talk about bad performance, lets talk about eq2

For ATI i hear the new drivers give a nice fps boost btw.
