Far Cry 2 = unplayable mess
Now if you want to jump in, please do, but my first impressions:
Unplayable mess.
- FOV is too narrow. it's like 60 or 65 degrees. Switching from 4:3 screen to widescreen just crops stuff from top and bottom. Either way your FOV is WAY too narrow.
- Forced mouse acceleration makes controls feel like crap. With ton of tweaking with mouse sensitivity (both in-game and Razer control panel) I got it to almost playable, but it still feels sluggish and unresponsive. I. DO. NOT. WANT. STUPID. MOUSE. ACCELERATION. (and if someone else wants it, he can turn on an option for it).
- Brown landscape, brown-shirted enemies, shiny bloom blinding you, pretty foliage everywhere... it's darn impossible to find people you are supposed to shoot at. You can hear them talking (And yeah, kinda locate them that way), but more often than not the enemy is in melee range before I get him into sights.
- Crappy guns. At least the ones you start with feel like pea shooters. If I fire a burst at a guy, I expect him to drop, or at least limp for cover. These guys flinch a bit and fire back.
Consolified crap. Pretty, but no matter how much shine you apply to a turd, it's still a turd.
There may be a deep game with huge gameworld, but when you feel like uninstalling after an hour because you can't see jack, FOV makes you nauseous and mouse feels like it's swimming in syrup, something is BADLY wrong.

I think this is one of the biggest let downs. A much larger FOV and it would be great and support for widescreen even better instead of this crop cr@p.

What does mouse acceleration do exactly?

I agree with this too, the enemy does seem hard to spot and yet they can see you like you've got a big sign over your head saying "Shoot here". Also they could make the game a little more colourful or at least ad some more green to it, the colour can sometimes be painful on the eyes.

Re: Far Cry 2 = unplayable mess
Normal mouse, "1:1" mouse = Cursor / target crosshair moves exactly 1:1 as you move the mouse.
Mouse acceleration = As you first move the mouse, the crosshair moves slowly, but the longer you move the mouse the faster the movement becomes until it hits a cap (usually 1:1).
In practice, if your aim is a little off, you move the mouse a bit, notice that the view crawls (as mouse acceleration keeps it slow), react to that and move more, overshooting as the acceleration kicks in. Pure crap.
Consoles use similar system to give better control with an analog stick - move it a little and the view moves slowly, push more and it moves faster.
YOU. DO. NOT. DO. THAT. WITH. MOUSE.
By tweaking sensitivity in the game to very low and then boosting it from mouse settings (razer control panel) you can fight the stupid acceleration a bit, but it's always there.

Re: Far Cry 2 = unplayable mess
I TOTALLY hate the console ports mouse behavior, the slight delay and acceleration drives me nuts.
Other than that i agree with the points said here about the FOV , also it seems to me like the Dunia engine looks dated.

Re: Far Cry 2 = unplayable mess
You can actually break the game right in the beginning. When it does the "Bring up the map with 5" etc, if you close the map before you get the message "Press R to zoom", you can no longer play the game. You cannot open doors, fixing the car doesn't do a thing (your satphone won't ring and you don't advance in the quest), and if you just walk away, eventually you'll be teleported back to where you began when you reach the first new zone, and from there on, you can no longer do anything at all.
But yeah, the G3-KA4 feels like an air gun in the game. A damn 7.62x51 round will take a bull down, not to mention a malaria-riddled, malnutritioned, worn-down enemy. But no, they just brush a 2-round headshot burst off like a mosquito. I thought they meant to make the game realistic at least in some way?

Re: Far Cry 2 = unplayable mess
I don't know what all this moaning is about? I am running it 1920 x 1200 all on Ultra High with 4 x AA and vsync on and it looks amazing!! just love the sunrise over the Savannah, I think people will always have a reason to moan, there will never be a perfect game, but compare this game to say Half Life 1 (load it up and see how much graphics have moved on) I think this has amazing graphics!

Re: Far Cry 2 = unplayable mess
The visuals are fine, if a bit uneven.
The controls... I got them to almost playable with some further tweaking, minimizing the effects of the stupid mouse acceleration. Got bit further in and the suck hasn't increased, but I'm still not too impressed.

This is what I noticed right away, even with a decent framerate it feels very sluggish, only played for about 10min as a result, just not playable.
Need to find some tweaks.

Re: Far Cry 2 = unplayable mess
Yea jarnis is pretty much right with everything. I have also been struggling with this strange jerkyness in dx10 on my 4870. I have only played 2 hours i hope the game gets alot better, its really not that great so far. Wheres the awesome story that makes me want to keep playing to see what unfolds???
I really hope this game isnt 30 hours of driving back and forth across the map doing disjointed missions. If it is iam ready for Fallout 3
