Integrated Wars - AMD dishes it out to Intel

Like kids fighting in the playground, shouting "My dad's bigger than yours!", AMD and Intel go toe-to-toe in the integrated graphics battle - the weapons of choice: Far Cry, Call of Juarez and Battlefield 2! All the juicy details in the full story.

Intel actually started the fight with this blog entry, dated 17th August, which pointed out the silicon giant had released new drivers for their integrated graphics chip, the G965:

Now G965 owners can boast much higher performance and support for more games. Games like Call of Duty 2, Far Cry (the game used as a poor example by some of our competitors) and Battlefield 2 (which didn’t even run) are now playable. Overall, expect a significant boost in performance for many games.

Then, in a remarkable act of nerve, AMD posted the following video on their YouTube account:

Having better integrated graphics is a good thing and both companies should be firmly pressured into improving both their hardware and drivers for the onboard stuff - not everyone has the funds or the means to use add-in graphics cards. However, it's pretty hypocritical of AMD to criticise Intel for having graphical issues in games; one only has to read through our reviews to notice that there are plenty of new titles with problems on AMD/ATI graphics cards - not exclusively so, but you don't fling mud about when you're already covered in it.

Kids these days...

They said the same things when I was down in Italy for their QuadFX launch. They may be right, but I'm sure there are plenty of games where AMD's integrated stuff has problems too. I also don't think the people that try to game on integrated graphics are ones to research performance before buying, so presentations like this serve little purpose.

My question is how are they getting away with smacking intel in the face with this? I mean its a newer review but wow.....besides they are using a platform (ati chipset) were as intel kinda dropped from integrated graphics for a while and now they are getting back into it. Ati never dropped from integrated and they have just been in it longer.....put the intel chip on ABIT Fatal1ty F-I90HD LGA 775 ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 and see how it compares.......yeah I know they are talking about mainstream pc's but we all know amd bought ATI so they kinda had a nice foot in the door so to speak....
