NewsSony to discontinue 60GB PlayStation 3 in EuropeSony has announced that once the current stock of 60GB PlayStation 3's has sold out, European regions will only have access to the newly introduced 40GB model. The frankly bizzare decision comes after Sony Europe announced a price cut for the 60GB model to £349 which the company said was in response to consumer feedback (We wanted the machine cheaper? That's rocket science for you) The company also unveiled a 40GB PlayStation 3 due to go on sale this Wednesday, but gave no indication that the 60GB model would be discontinued. "The 60GB Starter pack will remain on sale until stocks run out (a number of months, depending on territory.) Thereafter, the 40GB model will be the only SKU in the SCEE region," said Nick Sharples, director of corporate communications in Europe, according to Kotaku. What they do seem to be playing down slightly is that the new 40gb SKU will have NO backwards compatibility at all, only 2 USB ports and no card reader which seems to back track a bit on their previous home multimedia pub statements. Does anyone else wonder what on earth is going on in the board room at Sony? CommentsUnregistered users are required to complete an image verification.
