Assassin's Creed Records Record Sales; UbiSoft Reveals Delays

Hot off the presses, UbiSoft has announced that they've increased their projected revenue guidance for 2007-08 due to record sales of their recently released Action-Adventure title Assassin's Creed. According to the press release, Assassin's Creed has sold more then two and a half million units in less than four weeks, making it the fastest selling new video game IP in the United States ever.

As a result of this increased revenue, UbiSoft has decided to delay the releases of Tom Clancy's EndWar, Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway and Far Cry 2 from the fourth quarter of 2007-08 to some time in the company's 2008-09 fiscal year.

More details can be found right here.

Don't get the logic there...
was it

"Hey guys, we got a hit! Let's not ride the wave of success and hold off on releasing more games. If we were to release games, they'd just be competition for AC"

"Hey guys, that rushed and unoptimized game sold millions! Let's break the tread and make sure are next games are properly handled"

"Hey guys, AC was a hit! Let's rethink our next games and focus on what made AC so popular"

"Hey guys, drop what you're doing and let's get on this Assassin's Creed two. This time I'm thinking even MORE realism"

lol

Well, I just hope they use the time wisely and really polish those titles. There's way to many rushed/buggy games making it onto store shelves these days.

"the fastest selling new video game IP in the United States ever"
How much did Halo 3 sell then?

^^Fastest *new* IP, so soemthing that isn't a sequel or side venture...I'm sure Halo3 sold considerably more than AC.

Hopefully, AC's success will afford the development team time to layer some gameplay on top of the engine and storyline.

The success of this game proves that clever marketing and a strong PR campaign with reviewers is the difference between a mediocre title gathering dust on store shelves and becoming a hit.

And it wold seem, IMO, that ALOT of the titles of this year, which some are proclaiming as the best year in gaming ever, are PURE marketing and PR.

Details are in the logic. Hopefully this means Ubisoft will get back to putting out actual quality games; I am not holding my breathe.
