The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Announced

Spicing things up today, Pandemic Studios has officially announced the development of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, a Tolkien-inspired Action game for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Nintendo DS. Due out this Fall, the game will allow you to participate in epic battles across Middle Earth with the choice to fight alongside the heroic forces of good, or join Sauron’s evil army. Here's a little snippet from the press release:

“We’ll freely admit that we’re rabid fans of The Lord of the Rings fantasy,” says Josh Resnick, co-founder and general manager at Pandemic Studios. “Our experience creating massive, rich, action-packed games means that The Lord of the Rings: Conquest will give fans exactly what they want: full control of the blade, bow and magic to fight its epic battles any way they want – even if they choose to play from the evil side.”

And to whet your appetite, here's five hot new screenies!

Those screenshots look pretty good to me. I wonder if the game will be played from a first-person or a third-person perspective? I am guessing third person, because I think melee combat would be awkward in first-person (I am thinking back to the Pirate and Medieval mods for Battlefield 1942).
