Crytek Acquires Black Sea Studios

Taking a look at the business side of things tonight, Crytek has announced that they've acquired WorldShift-developer Black Sea Studios. The Bulgaria studio will remain in Sofia, but will now be known as "Crytek Black Sea". Here's a little snippet from the press release:

"We think the acquisition of Black Sea Studios is a great opportunity to continue our strategic growth and expansion. Black Sea Studios already has a very qualified and experienced development team in place and will be continually expanded in capacity to join our tradition of producing highly innovative and creative games which Crytek is known for.", said Avni Yerli, Managing Director of Crytek

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Crytek have only released two games in their entire existance, and done nothing but moan and whine about piracy and 'average' sales with Crysis - the question, therefore, is how can they afford to purchase another developer, no matter how minor they are. The obvious answer is that they've accrued more than enough sales with Far Cry and Crysis to do very well (plus earn healthy payouts from NVIDIA), and that anything any of the Yerli brothers say should be taken with a large pinch of salt.
