Knights of the Old Republic MMO Confirmed

Rumors about the EA / LucasArts / BioWare collaboration translating to a KOTOR MMO have floated around for a good while, but finally we have a confirmation that, indeed, a Knights of the Old Republic -based MMO is in the works. EA's chief executive John Riccitiello confirms it in an interview

"We've got two of the most compelling MMOs in the industry in development," said Riccitiello. The first title, based on the Warhammer property, will launch soon. "And the one that people are dying for us to talk to them about -- in partnership with Lucas, coming out of BioWare, which is, I think, quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry at the point when we get closer to telling you about it."

Does Riccitiello mean the oft rumored Knights of the Old Republic Online? "Yes," he said.

Suddenly EA's acquisition of BioWare starts to make a lot of sense. They have a proven franchise to build on, and with EA's cash, they could potentially develop a MMO that could make a dent to the global domination of World of Warcraft.

Well, okay, in theory Warhammer Online could be a contender as well, but with the news about feature cuts and the push to launch it quick... well, whatever happens with that, EA sure isn't going to twiddle their thumbs while Activision Blizzard keeps raking in the MMO subscription dollars. Interesting times ahead...

I know there are plenty of ppl excited about this, but I just couldn't care less.

I really wish somebody would try and do something fresh instead of working with existing lore for existing IP. Yea, yea I know Blizzard made a killing off of doing that but it has a lot more to do with it than just turning Warcraft into an MMO.

They are using the Heroes engine btw, iirc. Realtime updating in the most amazing sense.
