Original C&C: Red Alert Released For Free

Celebrating 13 years of Command & Conquer, the fine folks over at Electronic Arts have released a free downloadable version of the original C&C: Red Alert. The game is split into to separate files, each weighing in at around 500MB. The only drawback is limited "official" OS support and you'll have to either burn the game to discs or run a Virtual CD program. Here's the scoop:

- This software contains support for Windows XP/98/Me/95 with installation instructions. This software is not supported by Windows Vista, however there are community driven strategies and tips available for making the software function on Vista which you can find on our various fan-sites.

- To install the software, you will need Winzip or Winrar to unrar the files. These files have also been compiled in to an ISO image. You will need to burn the ISO to a CD for the software to function or use a Virtual CD program to run the installation on your computer.

ra2 was the best rts.. which is improved versio of this game and this is improved versio of original c&c which is also free (since last year).

These are the good oldies that have something new games dont. Maybe it is that developers really had fun doing these games unlike today making games is pure business. Maybe Ai is not that good and graphics suck compared to dx10 games but online and single player experience was still better than most new games have today. Ra3 just isn“t the same series anymore it is just some game which has C&C stiker on it just like generals. TW i would count as C&C since it still had some C&C spirit.
