Left 4 Dead System Requirements - Updated

Left 4 Dead System Requirements - Final, confirmed, straight off the back of the box.

It turns out the Left 4 Dead system requirements added to the Game-o-Meter last week were from an unreliable source. Valve's Doug Lombardi set the record straight. Here are the final system requirements.

  • OS: Windows Vista, XP or 2000
  • CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)
  • RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
  • DISC DRIVE: DVD-ROM Drive
  • HARD DRIVE: At least 7.5 GB of free space
  • VIDEO: Direct X 9 compatible video card (Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for pixel shader 2.0)
  • SOUND: Direct X9.0c compatible sound card

Game-o-Meter unfortunately is currently unable to display "split" memory requirements for XP/Vista so it'll say for 1GB as it's enough for XP. In any case, 2GB tends to be the practical minimum for running Vista and just about any application on top of it.

We apologize for the earlier inaccurate information. Publishers and developers sometimes hide system requirements like they were the crown jewels, with PR people refusing to disclose them even when the game boxes are already being printed. At times it's necessary to go with information that isn't coming straight from the source. As always, YouGamers welcomes any new data or corrections regarding the system requirements of upcoming games for the Game-o-Meter - news@yougamers.com is the email address.
