Wrath of the Lich King System Requirements

Blizzard updated today the final system requirements for World of Warcraft after patch 3.0 (effectively, the engine for Wrath of the Lich King) goes live.

OS:

  • Windows XP (Service Pack 3), Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)

Processor:

  • Minimum: Intel Pentium 4 1.3 GHz or AMD Athlon XP 1500+
  • Recommended: Dual-core processor, such as the Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2

Memory:

  • Minimum: 512 MB RAM (1GB for Vista users)
  • Recommended: 1 GB RAM (2 GB for Vista users)

Video:

  • Minimum: 3D graphics processor with Hardware Transform and Lighting with 32 MB VRAM (Such as an ATI Radeon 7200 or NVIDIA GeForce 2 class card or better)
  • Recommended: 3D graphics processor with Vertex and Pixel Shader capability with 128 MB VRAM (Such as an ATI Radeon X1600 or NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT class card or better)

Sound:

  • DirectX-compatible sound card or motherboard sound capability

Basically the old "recommended" is now the "minimum" for the CPU, while the minimum for graphics card didn't move. The recommended specs jumped quite a bit and appear to be fairly realistic - you'll be able to run the new shadows with a recommended spec system. Not at the maximum setting, but that's to be expected.

Not sure if your system can meet the new recommended requirements for Wrath of the Lich King? Test it out using our Game-o-Meter.

WoW use to be 800mhz p3 or amd athlon, 256mb or 512 for mac, 32mb videocard with Hardware Transform and Lighting.

For what is the huge increase in minium cpu power?

BC was still 800mhz but upped pc ram to 512mb as minium(maybe its a box typo saying 256mb for pc)

Any info for what they need it for.

Northrend is a lot more complex area, the general visuals - polygon density - has gone up. It's still far from high tech, but the difference is noticeable.

Of course the minimum spec is still "straight from the computer museum" grade. Systems generally sold *five years ago* can meet those specs.

Well,I'm gonna try to play it on this system,a 800ghz Tablet PC. Worked ok with Wow and BC,lets see if it works or whether I'll have to upgrade PC's.
