Left 4 Dead Patch Released

As promised, the fine folks over at Valve Software have released a new patch for their hit co-op zombie shooter, Left 4 Dead. This update features a lengthy list of bug/exploit fixes, performance improvements, Versus mode changes and infected class tweaks. Here's the official changelog:

General

  • Fixed Survivors being able to climb surfaces marked for versus infected only.
  • Fixed a class of SurvivorBot bugs dealing with rescuing downed players.
  • Players can no longer grab ladders while flying through the air after a Tank punch.
  • Shooting near a car with an alarm that has already fired the alarm will no longer make chirping noises.
  • Improved loading time.

  • Fixed propane tanks (and other physics objects) causing players to fall through elevators.
  • Fixed rare achievement bug issues.
  • Fixed several map exploits.
  • Fixed various match making issues.
  • Fixed NAT traversal issues.

  • Changed color of infected player name in chat to red.
  • Fixed exploit where players could spawn infected bots
  • Fixed instance where a Survivor changing to the infected team would be attacked by infected bots.
  • Normalized special infected melee damage.
  • Made the following client commands cheat protected: "Kill" and "explode".
  • Fixed exploit where infected players could run away and teleport back to gain health.
  • Players can only change teams once per map.
  • Players can't change teams while other players are still loading.
  • Tank spawns at the same % through the map for both teams in versus mode.
  • Made the Tank and Witch spawn directly on the escape route.

  • Fixed team swap issue.

Hunter

  • Easier to pounce a Survivor who is meleeing.
  • Increased Minimum damage a Hunter pounce does.

  • Smoker now has to be killed or the tongue destroyed for the tongue to break.
  • Survivor's cannot bash someone off the tongue until the Survivor being pulled is paralyzed or hanging
  • Tongue attacks that fail to paralyze or hang a Survivor will use the shorter ability delay timer.
  • Fixed cases where the ability timer was not using the correct time.
  • Fixed case where you could point at a Survivor but not register a tongue hit
  • Fixed Smoker tongue not targeting and landing properly through PZ ghosts.
  • Smoker tongue does damage every second while dragging paralyzed Survivors.

Tank

  • Bashable objects now appear with a red glow.
  • Tanks hitting a car with an alarm disables the alarm permanently.
  • Tank frustration timer is only reset by hitting Survivors with rocks or fists.
  • Reduced autoshotgun damage against Tanks.

Witch

  • Witch spawns at the same % through the map for both teams.
  • Avoids spawning within a certain % of the tank.
  • Fixed an exploit where the Witch could be woken up and tricked into attacking Survivors.

Pretty awesome changes! To start downloading, just relaunch Steam. :D

It´s a patch (=means no new contents).

It's a bugfix/exploit/balancing patch. Makes the game a lot better already.

I hear the content stuff is coming a bit later as they plan on doing a simultaneous release of added content on PC and X360 - and as usual, X360 stuff needs to go through the MS approval process.

Yeah, and that's the problem!

Definitely makes those last stages a LOT harder... assuming you're not playing on 'normal' or something...

Did u finally start playing vs? Hope so. That is really where the fun is, imo. Granted, u started late, and the infecteds learning curve is higher, but the competition between the 2 sides is so fun when capable players are on both sides

It's fun - especially if you get to be the tank and take out 3 survivors with a car (heh heh). I've done very well with the Hunter and Tank and even cause some mayhem with the boomer (luck permitting), but I can't get to grips with the smoker - I've done really badly with him.

Neither the smoker or boomer (at least imo) are meant as damage dealers. Granted, in the right situation, they can both cause a considerable amount of damage, but against a good team, they are better thought of as a mayhem dealer. For the smoker, look for situations where you can set up the boomer (1st forest lvl, smkr/bmr up in trees). Whoever u drag, someone will likely run up after, they kill u but boomer gets em both... They are tied up with the oncoming horde while the 2 hunters take out the guys still on the path. Neither the boomer of smoker did much damage in that situation, but by tieing up 2 survivord, hopefully , with good teamwork the other two are now incapped or nearly so.
At worse, the other team now has 2 less health packs at the start of the map.

The smoker is best used to pull someone down and make them have to start over going through the horde or in seperating them so the hunter or boomer can wreak havoc on the rest. The smoker is extremely effective on the upper hospital section... Look for angles to pull a survivor off the building (there are 3 really good spots)... That is an instant incap.

Really though, it is best when you are dead to watch what good players on ur team do with the boomer and smoker, as the spots where they are most effectively used are well known, and with patience u will find them and effectively use them too.
