New Steam Client Enters Open Beta

Grabbing out attention tonight, Valve Software has announced that they've begun beta testing a new version of Steam. The new client features a slew of improvements including new ways to organize your games list, more friend-related info, the addition of a news feed section and more! You can find a full preview of the changes right here. Those of you interested in participating in the beta can opt-in by loading up Steam and going to View>Settings>Beta Participation and selecting the UI beta. Here's a couple screenshots to help whet your appetite:

Ack - it's as buggy as hell, even for an open beta. Shell errors and full-on crashes galore, and I have to say that when it does work, it makes the older client feel neat and simple in comparison.

Warning to all: It made me redownload the entirety of Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer. If I wouldn't have had the disc, it would have been a 7GB download.
