World Cyber Games Eliminations at Assembly Summer 2007The Assembly Summer 2007 audience was once again treated to high-quality professional gaming, as four events were contested at the World Cyber Games final elimination tournaments. The grand prize was four qualification spots to WCG Grand Final held on October 3-7 at the Quest Field of Seattle, U.S. - read on for a short recap of the results. Warcraft 3 WCG Eliminations promised a bit of drama this time around, as the finalists of WCG tournament at Assembly Winter would meet in the very first round. There's a bit of rivalry between Satiini and Konna, and many expected a tough fight. Unfortunately, Satiini cancelled in the last minute and Konna took the match by default, advancing through the tournament and beating all his opponents to claim the victory. Congratulations to Konna, who won a ticket to Seattle along with the €500 first prize. Counter-Strike 1.6 was a one-team show this year. 69N-28E took the final convincingly, followed by team Logitech and team afterlife. Although their group portrait may not show it, there were signs of battle fatigue from 69N-28E, with members complaining that "the magic is gone" and that it was a "forced effort". Logitech seemed hungrier for the win, and visibly upset after they didn't get it - let's hope we'll see them come back better than ever.
Niklas "Shinobi" Saukkokoski took the Dead Or Alive 4 tournament, and will represent Finland for the second time at World Cyber Games final. Niklas also took second place in Project Gotham Racing 3, the winner of which was, as expected, the high-flying Erno "TTR FinPro" Kuronen. For the official results go to WCG Nordic's website.
