Hail to the new king, baby?

The shadows are very realistic and add a warm, fuzzy depth to everything.

This is quite easy to answer, to be honest. If you loved Far Cry, you'll love Crysis too and probably more so. If you're a sucker for graphics or want something to make your PC bleed silicon, then prepare to kneel to the new royalty. If you're after an FPS to get your teeth into, start salivating now.

On the other hand, if you're expecting something revolutionary or totally new, well, Crysis is not it. Don't get me wrong; the day of playing I had with just two levels and the annoying multiplayer were enough to convince me that this will be a great game and will sell A LOT(tm) of small black boxes. What it does, it performs with the same level of panache and style of a major blockbuster action movie. You'll have seen the gameplay elements before, no doubt, but they're tied together well, in a polished and tight package.

No brief conclusion here though - if you've made it this far through the preview, then I think you'll have already made your mind up. It is the evolutionary step forward most of us would expect from Crytek, given the popularity of Far Cry: keep the good bits and spice up the dish with looks to die for. Crysis will be bought, played, and modded in vast quantities, and for all the right reasons.
