Final verdict

I really did enjoy this final episode of Heroes V, and as a fan of the series I must say that it really is one of the best versions in terms of gameplay mechanics and the amount of tactics the players can use. The improvements over the core game, and all the new content really turns HoMM 5 into a solid package, although one may wonder why some of the features in the game had to be implemented so long after its original release. Nevertheless, if you are into this kind of gameplay, then you definitely shouldn't miss out on Tribes of the East. On the other hand, the cut-scenes, outdated technology, and the performance-affecting bugs really do hurt this otherwise fine game.

Tribes of the East in all its glory. All the tiny details in the adventure map add up to a beautiful picture.

Even with such old technology, the game can still look fantastic.

Scores

Gameplay 93 If you like the Heroes-ish turn based strategy games, then it doesn't get much better than this.
Graphics 72 Masterful art design, a colourful universe with hundreds of diverse creatures, let down by old technology and abysmal cut-scenes. The improvements to them are too little, too late.
Audio 73 The great orchestral score can only carry the game so far, but all the joy it causes to the player is quickly annihilated when the voice acting kicks in.
Technology 55 Obvious issues with the continuous degradation of performance with time and an outdated engine don't help in this department.
OVERALL
75
Tribes of the East would be a complete success wasn't it for the annoyances mentioned earlier, but don't let the rating fool you too much; if you can cope with the game's shortcomings, then this title can offer hundreds of hours of intense gaming.
