Not so "Yarr" after all

All in all Bounty Bay Online fails in the most important aspect where a game would have to convince, namely in being fun. Levelling up is so tedious that the players may end up turning to their daytime jobs out of escapism. Whilst the game definitely can't compare to the big players in the MMO market, the free client with 10 days trial may make it a worthwhile download to try out, for those with a low-end PC or suffer from a rather heavy pirate fetish. However, with all the shortcomings of Bounty Bay Online, it is really difficult to recommend it to anyone really, especially since there are so many other great games out there and similarly themed MMOs, such as Pirates of the Burning Sea, for example, look a lot more promising.

Expect to do this a lot if you want to create materials for crafting / upgrading your ship.

Levelling the various weapon skills can be as tedious as mining.

Gameplay 46 The constant repetitive grinding can really defeat all the fun to be had in the game without offering any real challenge to the gamer. Having the freedom to explore the entire world and being able to choose a non-violent approach are welcome features.
Graphics 40 A very outdated engine, dull environments and awful animation add up to a sub-par visual experience.
Audio 67 The awful character sounds really ruin the game in this department, although the soundtrack isn't bad and fits the game quite well.
Technology 47 Whilst the game is years behind in technology, this also means that it works flawlessly with most PCs purchased in the past couple of years.

 A failure in a lot of ways, awful visuals paired with repetitive grinding and the annoyances of a weak translation - these should be reason enough for most to give this game a miss.
