Summary and Scoring Fallout and Fallout 2 are considered timeless classics, so when Bethesda announced that they were working on Fallout 3, the fanboys were understandably estatic and worried at the same time. Personally I was expecting a failure - it seemed obvious that Bethesda couldn't do new Fallout game with old turn-based combat and I couldn't see how they couldn't make a proper Fallout game without it. I was wrong. I've never been happier for being so wrong. Fallout 3 is here, and it's a proper Fallout game. Fallout 3 is a hybrid action-RPG game set in the aftermath of a nuclear world war. In the Fallout world, the history diverged after the second World War and somehow the idyllic lifestyle of the 1950s stayed as the way to live in the US. There were some advances in technology with computers, robots, nuclear-powered cars and so on, but otherwise Fallout looks like US of 1950s - at least until 2077 when the Chinese forces attacked Alaska and everything went to hell as nuclear bombs "redecorated" the whole planet.

But the world didn't end. Life goes on - some survived in huge underground Vaults, some had other means. Sure, ghouls, mutants and other nasty creatures roam the wastelands, some places still retain lethal amounts of radiation and everywhere as far as the eye can see you see ruins and more ruins. My kind of world for a RPG! In fact, the Fallout series has always been a nice break from the endless supply of fantasy RPGs, and Fallout 3 continues the tradition.
