Inscription and Other Tradeskills

Wrath of the Lich King also brought in a new tradeskill of Inscription and the Glyph system. At level 80 you can improve your character with three major and three minor glyphs crafted by Scribes. Each glyph could be considered as an enhancement to a spell or ability - as an example, Glyph of Chain Heal allows Shaman's chain heal to bounce to a fourth target instead of the usual three. Some glyphs provide small benefits, some offer benefits with a drawback.

Inscription up to skill of 375 was introduced a month before the expansion and Wrath of the Lich King takes the tradeskill up to 450. New tradeskill recipes for all tradeskills actually start at skill level of 350, so there is some overlap. This removes the need to gather rare endgame materials in Outland for raising a tradeskill from 350 to 375 and is a very smart move to smooth out the transition for anyone leveling through the old content.

Unfortunately Inscription is one of many tradeskills that ended up slightly incomplete at expansion launch as there is almost nothing to craft past 400 skill. Same is true for many other crafting professions - only Jewelcrafting and Enchanting actually feel mostly complete with logical craftables all the way to 450 and Alchemy gets close. Other tradeskills feel barren with the bare minimum of craftable items to make it possible to reach 450. What's available is well polished and balanced, but it's almost certain that a bunch of crafting-related items will be introduced to pad out the tradeskills in a later patch.

High level tailors get to craft their very own flying carpet - "This is a Very Fast Rug"

High end Enchanting recipes are bought with Dream Shards.

Wrath of the Lich King also changes the way many tradeskills obtain their recipes. In Burning Crusade, many high end recipes were rare drops from dungeons but Lich King introduces two new mechanics. Some crafting skills offer a set of recipes for turning in materials - enchanters get high end recipes by turning in Dream Shards obtained through disenchanting and Leatherworkers can trade high end leather for their recipes. Others introduce a currency obtainable through daily quests. Jewelcrafters can obtain many of their recipes with Dalaran Jewelcrafter Tokens, available at the rate of one per day from a daily quest. Same is true for Cooks - Dalaran Cooking Awards, redeemable for new cooking recipes can be obtained through a related daily quest. This is a great idea and provides an advantage to a dedicated crafter who goes through the daily quest every day, offering quicker access to a full range of crafting recipes - a big advantage when playing the auction house game for some serious gold.

Championing

Championing for the Wyrmrest Accord

The final unique feature of Wrath of the Lich King is Championing. In Burning Crusade many factions had specific dungeons that awarded reputation for that specific faction. In Northrend, all normal level 80 dungeons and all Heroic dungeons provide reputation to either Horde Expedition or Valiance Expedition. However, you can change this by wearing a tabard of your favorite faction. Most factions offer their tabard at friendly reputation obtainable easily trough quests and further reputation is then gained at any 5-man endgame dungeon with the tabard converting the Horde/Valiance Expedition reputation to faction-specific reputation.

Except that not every faction has a tabard available for purchase. Northrend still has one big reputation grind that cannot be done through dungeons - Sons of Hodir. They could be considered as the Netherwing faction of Northrend with a set of dailies for reputation. But while Netherwing faction offered rewards that most considered luxuries, Sons of Hodir is the faction in Northrend that exclusively sells shoulder enchants - with the top versions available only at Exalted making this effectively mandatory for serious players. Ah well, at least the dailys are fairly easy and provide some money as well - just expect some competition as everyone seems to be doing them these days.

On a related note, Northrend is absolutely filled with repeatable daily quests. You can find more than 30 different daily quests, some as early as level 72. Most of them award both money and reputation for one of the many factions. The money rewards are not quite as lucrative as they were at level 70, but the quests are generally faster to do and there are more available - the total you can make in gold every day from these quests at level 80 is roughly the same.
