Good Port, With Some IssuesA lot of noise has been made about the PC port - complaints about bad code, bugs and performance issues. I have to say that while I've experienced some bugs, I'm still pleased with the port. Sure, it could be more polished and we all know that the closer the game is released to the holidays, more unresolved bugs there will be, and GTA IV PC proves the point. I've seen the dreaded RESC10 video memory error on a system with a 2x1GB HD4870X2 that should not be even close to being out of memory. I've seen the game to hang on a loading screen during a mission on a NVIDIA-based system. I've seen the performance suddenly plummet to 1-3FPS on ATI-based system, requiring a restart. The game also seems to have a memory leak somewhere - after a long play session, even on 4GB systems, it can take almost ten seconds to quit or alt-tab to desktop while the hard disk is going nuts. But it's all fairly minor stuff. I'm aware that some people haven't been able to get the game running at all, but I cannot confirm these problems - GTA IV has worked for me on multiple systems and same is true for everyone that I personally know who bought the game. You do have to install the new Games for Windows LIVE client, Rockstar Social Club client and possibly a bunch of windows updates to get the game to run, but the only bit that felt excessive to me was the separate Rockstar Social Club client. Grand Theft Auto IV PC is the definite version of the game. It is also a system resource hog, but as long as it's accurately labeled as such, I don't see a big problem. If your system is old or low budget, GTA IV on the PC is not for you. It may make the owners of older systems unhappy, but that's not a good reason to badmouth an otherwise good game. Publisher's requirements and recommendations are bit on the low side but not completely unrealistic and if you follow the YouGamers minimum, you will be able to play the game acceptably on Medium, with settings that look better than on any console. Any remaining bugs and configuration-specific performance hickups will most likely be resolved over time with driver updates and patches anyway. Personally I'm glad that there are still games that decisively push the envelope of what's possible on the PC and GTA IV definitely qualifies - and it manages it all while being a quite entertaining game as well. Is it "10/10" good? No, but it gets close. Summary of YouGamers Hardware TestingThe publisher of this game state the following specifications for their minimum and recommended requirements:
