Pretty Battles

For a smaller "semi-indie" title, Demigod looks very good. At the same time it scales down to a fairly low level, offering nice performance even on more marginal systems. Yet as the number of "creep" units bashing it out grows when citadels are upgraded, the system required for smooth play at maximum setting is surprisingly high. I saw dips to sub-60fps on Core 2 Quad Q9550 paired with GeForce 9800GTX at 1920x1200 and while the gameplay was fine at maximum settings on this configuration, the pretty visuals do ask for a proper gaming PC in case you want to push the visuals up to the level shown in the screenshots.

High settings - playable on systems that meet the YouGamers recommended.

Medium settings - playable on systems that meet YouGamers minimum.

Low settings - ugly mode for the low end video cards.

Low setting looks ugly, but on the other hand it also runs on a low end 128MB video card which is very reasonable these days. In fact Demigod scaling is a good example how to do things properly - low runs on a wide range of hardware at the expense of visuals, medium covers most of the gaming rigs while looking acceptable and when you max things out you get extra eye candy for those that have a high end system.

Map backgrounds are suitably epic to fit the theme.

Larger maps offer plenty of room for maneuvering.

Once you actually get a multiplayer game going, things pretty much just work - the experience is very polished and there are virtually no noticeable bugs. The only one that bothered me a bit was the one that causes your Demigod to randomly ignore a command from time to time and for this issue there is a simple workaround - just spam-click your commands a few times and your unit will get the idea.
