Crysis Final System Requirements

Updated - YouGamers visited Crytek to check out their heavily anticipated DX10-showcase title Crysis, courtesy of Electronic Arts. A full preview article on the game is coming soon, but the most important piece of news from the visit is the official word on the final system requirements for Crysis.

Crytek states that the minimum system is as follows, depending on the operating system:

Windows XP

  • Get it! Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz (or similar AMD)
  • 1024MB RAM
  • a 256MB Shader Model 3.0-compatible video card
  • 12GB disk space

Windows Vista

  • Get it! Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz (or similar AMD)
  • 1536MB RAM
  • a 256MB Shader Model 3.0-compatible video card
  • 12GB disk space

A 256MB SM3.0 card would probably translate to something like an Get it! NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT or Get it! ATI Radeon X1650 series. According to Crytek, a system meeting the minimum requirements will run the game at 800x600 using low/medium settings.

Recommended setup is:

Windows XP/Vista

  • Get it! Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 or Get it! AMD Athlon X2 4400+
  • 2048MB RAM
  • Get it! NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB
  • 12GB disk space

Windows XP, using DX9 is limited to "high" graphical settings, while Windows Vista, using DX10, can be set to "very high". According to Crytek the recommended system will run the game in "high resolution" at "high settings".

The minimum requirements are surprisingly high, lending support to the rumors that the multiplayer version (currently in NDA-bound open beta test) is chomping heavily on any hardware it comes across. The recommended setup on the other hand is pretty much what I expected. The current-generation DX10 hardware is the first take on this new technology - the features are there, but the performance is far from optimized, and you have to choose between taking full advantage of DX10, or developing for the widest possible audience. Crytek has simply chosen to develop for the latest and the greatest hardware - so you pretty much need an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS or an Get it! ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT to run the game properly in DX10 mode.

You can compare your system to the requirements using our handy Game-o-Meter tool. Note that the Game-o-Meter currently assumes that you are using Windows XP for the minimum requirements.

Crysis is currently scheduled to ship on November 16.

Update: Some sites are reporting that the minimum supported video card would actually be Radeon 9800 Pro:

** Supported chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT or greater; ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or greater. Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. Integrated chipsets are not supported. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required.

YouGamers asked about the Shader Model 2.0/3.0 support from directly from Crytek, and they stated clearly that Crysis requires Shader Model 3.0 to run. That rules out Radeon 9800 Pro and Radeon X800 series cards, as they do not support Shader Model 3.0.

Morning Update: The minimum requirement plot thickens. We have a clear confirmation that Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek clearly stated in the event that Crysis requires Shader Model 3.0 hardware to run. Gamespot interview has also changed to refer to 6800 GT only;

** Supported chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT + or similar GPUs. Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported. Integrated chipsets are not supported. Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required.

However, the latest word we have from EA is still that their press release is correct, and it looks like Cevat Yerli's statement was his personal recommendation. Either way based on the performance of the game at the EA press event, it's doubtful it will run very well even on a GeForce 6800 GT or a Radeon 9800 Pro.

I love the min requirements - 800x600 and low settings. I'm sure that is exactly what people wanting to play Crysis are looking for ;)

Well, effectively they are saying is... Needs a speedy dual core CPU and high end DX10 card - preferably GeForce 8800GTS 640MB as it's "Nvidia the way it's meant to be played"-title. The minimun specs are for those who are running a 2-3 year old system, and want to know if they can even try to run it.

At least points for honesty - usually everyone just states the min system, and people may actually assume that you can play with it. It's always better to know that what you can expect with it.

Does anyone know if crysis supports quad core?

@lim^

Yes. Crysis supports quad-core CPUs.

I know Crysis looks amazing, but I think they could have actually done a bit better with the requirements.

UT3 IMO looks amazing as well and prolly around the same level as Crysis, and its DX9 with considerably lower requirements than Crysis.

Maybe im wrong, Obviously I haven't played either of them, im just going by Vids and screen shots.

yaayyy my system passes the recommended game-o-meter requirements although fails on the 320mb gts :S

Well on My rig (in my Sig) @ 1152x864 on medium, it runs ok, but not great in the Beta. If there are tons of peeps in a map though the Frame rates can get quite choppy.

I was lucky enough to have 30mins of play time with UT3 and not to let you down but the graphics were sorely lacking. I was really surprised, don't get me wrong the textures etc look great but at a fast pace you can't admire them. Overall it is nowhere near as good as crysis which i managed to play for 10mins :-(

Not to have a rant but i also hated that every time you got a frag in UT3 it went in to slow mo (what the hell is that all about??!!).

My system is a quite a bit beyond the minimum, but fails to reach the recommended Anyone think I may be able to play at 1024x768 on my system? Btw, does crysis support SLI?

Unregistered 2007-10-09 #11
my pc would fart and laugth at me if i even atempted playin crysis!

CompuG33K 2007-10-09 #12
SM 3.0 required afterall? Well then how am I able to run the beta on an x800gto just fine, but can't on a 9800pro? Perhaps SM2.0b is sufficient?

JonnyG 2007-10-09 #13
Im set to play according to the game-o-meter thingy. The specs are what we were expecting.

Unregistered 2007-10-09 #14
ive got 1 8800 gts 320mB, but if i bought another one
(SLi) would that work (pass on everything else)

Unregistered 2007-10-09 #15
I'd rather skip this game. I don't have money to spend at this moment. *** crysis.
