EVE Online: Trinity System Requirements Revealed
In preparation for the upcoming launch of EVE Online: Trinity, the latest free expansion for EVE Online, CCP has supplied YouGamers with the official system requirements for the new graphics engine included in EVE Online: Trinity.
The system requirements for the Classic graphics content will remain the same.
The system requirements for the Premium graphics content are:
Minimum (if you just want it to run):
- Windows 2k SP2 / XP / Vista
- Intel/AMD based computer with CPU speed equal or greater than 1.8GHz
- RAM: 1024 MB or more
- HD space: 10 GB
- Graphics card: must support DX9 Shader Model 3 (
NVIDIA GeForce 6xxx series or ATI Radeon X1300 or later)
- Drivers: DirectX® 9.0c
Recommended (if you want to be able to turn on all the bells and whistles):
- Windows 2k SP2 / XP / Vista
- Intel/AMD based computer with CPU speed equal or greater than 2.4GHz
- RAM: 2048 MB or more
- HD space: 10 GB
- Graphics card:
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 series, or ATI Radeon X1900 series cards.
- Drivers: DirectX® 9.0c/DirectX® 10
You can compare your system to these requirements using our handy Game-o-Meter - one click will tell you whether your PC just meets these requirements or totally demolishes them. Note that the Premium graphics content requires a SM3.0 capable graphics card - SM2.0 or less won't work.
The current version of Trinity is limited to DX9 - a further update for DX10 is still planned for the future, but no firm date has been announced.
Even with just DX9 graphics, the Trinity expansion definitely bumps up the visuals of EVE Online, and based on my own limited testing on the Singularity Test Server, these requirements are pretty much spot-on. If you go and push the shadow settings of EVE Online: Trinity up to Extreme, even an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS has its hands full when things heat up on screen.
CCP is aiming for December 5th as the launch date for EVE Online: Trinity and YouGamers will have a more in-depth analysis of the new engine after launch.

What's the betting that people will moan about the Premium graphics content being SM3.0 only?

They won't because CCP built the client so it could run both the old version of the graphics and the new version with the enhanced graphics that require SM3.0. Its pretty amazing what they have done if you think about how difficult it is to have the same engine run Direct X 8 (the old version) and direct x 9 (the new version).

There is already a "Shader Model 3.0 only sucks" thread on CCP forums, but I think the whiners are in the minority - every new card has been SM3.0 so long that anyone not able to run the new engine is using ancient hardware anyway...

Very impressed with the engine so far. Only tried the classic mode without all the extra DX9 stuff. Went from today’s 20fps to 80+ FPS. Not only that but the reflections and graphics as a hole looked much better. Cannot wait to see the full DX9 client.

Is it only those 3D-cards that Trinity supports or all cards with Direct X 10 and Shade Model 3 (or higher)?

Trinity, with the Premium graphics content, should support all graphics cards that offer Shader Model 3.0 - this includes, but is by no means all possible cards, ATI's Radeon X1000 series (X1300, X1600, etc), Radeon HD 2000 series (2600, 2900, etc), Radeon HD 3000 series (3850, etc), NVIDIA GeForce 6 series (6600, 6800, etc), GeForce 7 series (7300, 7600, etc), GeForce 8 series (8600, 8800).

128MB card is enough, but obviously 256MB or 512MB would also be useful. |
