3DMark Vantage Hotfix Incoming

3DMark Vantage launch was a definite success, but there were some bumps on the way. Both ATI and NVIDIA scrambled to mend some outstanding driver issues at the last moment with beta drivers, and some minor bugs managed to burrow into the final build. Known and reproduced issues include such minor bits as having to enter the product key twice, and having to ponder about an error popup on the first run. Jaakko Haapasalo, project manager of 3DMark Vantage, confirmed on the Futuremark/YouGamers forums that a hotfix to repair these (and other) outstanding minor bugs is on the way.

The community has also voiced their rather strong opinions about some bits of the Advanced version - the advertising banner and the inability to view and save benchmark scores offline. Neither of these is an issue with the $495 Professional version, but understandably that is not really an option for the vast majority of the benchmarking community. Besides, Pro is really meant exclusively for commercial use and is priced as such.

In response to the polls and comments, Jaakko Haapasalo also hinted that the community feedback is being heard loud and clear, and strongly indicated that there may be announcements from Futuremark on the subject next week.

Interesting...

the requirement for vista SP1 is also a joke since MS have pulled the service pack.

It's back up as of yesterday.

No. You may be unhappy, but all the reviews have given Vantage a thumbs up to name just one group.

I am also getting fed up of your bickering though SnW (and it seems to be everywhere)...you seem to be going down that road again, so please be careful and try to calm down.

Doesnt it ever make you wonder why? Just look at your post history and sort yourself out.

End of this discussion, back to the original topic.

Good news all around really.

Kudos to FM for quickly fixing any issues with Vantage and I'm glad to hear they are taking the boards frustrations in to carful consideration as well.

Will be interesting to see exactly what the hotfix addresses.

Sp1 also fixes SLI/CF issues, so it's by no means "a joke".

Cheers,

Nick

I'd tell you if I knew all the details but nobody has them yet. We'll have to wait until the 3DMark devs are done with it as it's still very much under development. You have to take into account that the devs have just barely recovered from all the partying after the launch... 3DMark launch plus 1st of May two days later (a big "everyone gets drunk" holiday in Finland ) was such a combination that mere mortals would still be recovering...

Yet they are already working to address any outstanding issues. Just give 'em some time. Jaakko already said he'll hopefully have some news for us over the next week.

well maybe the word `joke` was a little harsh , but you can`t state that the Vantage software requires a service pack that the writer of said service pack has suspended, fixes or otherwise , once its suspended its `off the market`.

Very interesting PR release, inbetween the usual down playing of the situation are some key points. Not least of which the idea of giving into demands made by very annoyed customers. It will be interesting to see after the hangovers have cleared, what changes are made to salvage this 3DMark.

Allowing users to view their score offline and removing the ads would be a good step forward IMO.
(of course bugs being fixed as well)

harlequin 2008-05-03 #14
i think maybe move this to an appropriate section of the forum , unless the `mods` want discussion and/or criticism about this news here.

Things are looking up, good news indeed!
