The very idea of requiring an Internet connection to play with your LOCAL buddies is ridiculous, this game needs LAN support and the crowd won't back down until it is finally implemented.
And it's a very big crowd... |

Another reason not to bother with it... As if splitting it into 3 games wasn't already bad enough. |

| I'm sure you can still play with your local buddies, but you won't be able to play without internet connection as you'll need to authenticate on battle.net for sure. I wouldn't be super shocked if even single player required battle.net login authentication. Blizzard knows how to avoid piracy - tie their games to online services... |

Yeah, they've got pirates shaking in their boots.
There are ways around everything, online authentication is no different. If cutting LAN was just anti-piracy bullshit, then they're only going to embolden pirates. Remember Spore? |

Well, it still doesn't matter priacy is the exact reason they are cutting it out more than likely. |

I played and finished Warcraft III before it was on store shelves.
I suspect Starcraft II, the most hotly anticipated RTS since Tiberian Sun in 1999 will also be a high target for pirates.
What kind of decision is it to drop LAN play? Does Blizzard not like LAN gaming? The Koreans are going to go ballistic with this news, their society is made up of LAN parties. |

Its just unbelievable, im actually chuckling semi-hysterically at the moment. The pc gaming industry is being evicerated by console gaming and piracy and these gaming companies are just doing the most foolish backwards things possible.
Do they WANT to loose the last remaining audience that they have? Mabye they do so they have an excuse to go fully console.
Time and time again, game after game, stupid decision after stupid decsion.....and with the results OBVIOUS from both blatant piracy AND fan feedback. WHO is demanding these implementations?
Im tried of being spit in the face after hanging on by the last thread that pc gaming has. Blizzard was the one company that I expected to be the shinning example. Its good they dont have crazy DRM( that we know of....) but this just opens the door to a world of awfull things that other companies have done, to much regret.
It wont be long before I just say screw it and move on from gaming to other things this world has to offer. You pc gaming industry guys have done it to yourself, good luck out in the real world you retards. |

| Unbelievable to go from being one of the only games which support multiple installation as a way of supporting LAN games to completely dropping support is very sad, I was excited about this game. Now I am not so much oh well I suppose I will just have to not bother. |

I doubt piracy has much to do with it, pirated versions rarely work with non pirated version online anyway, and anybody who buys Starcraft 2 just for single player is a muppet.
Im sure its for some unrelated and twice as stupid reason, would fit more with Blizzards style lately. |

Eeeek and now it appears Blizzard is all for (paid?) Faction change in World of Warcraft.
It's not exactly clear what they mean, Night Elf on the Horde Side or Night Elf -> Troll on Horde Side, Alliance Tauren or Tauren -> Alliance Gnome, etc.

What is this, Blizzard goes crazy day? |

I don't think blizzard has to worry about piracy. Their games always sell lots and lots.
Perhaps its jus their new policy with battle.net 2.. just like diablo3 won't have LAN. |

That would suck big time. Me and my brother play a lot offline and on lan shops. Our net connection is terribly slow too. I also wouldn't want to buy more than 1 copy of the game just so my and my bro can play offline. They allowed this in WC3, hence the release of the no-CD requirement in their latest patches.
I really hope they consider area and countries which have poor to almost non-existent internet services. Blizzard will have less support in those areas and even push those people to obtain the game through "other" means. |

Wow, not many things make me go WTF, but this was one. No LAN? Seriously? Blizzard's so worried about pirates yet they can't be assed to do anything about cheaters. I bet it comes with internet activation too
$150 saved at least |

I'm quite sure it is due to a tie to online service.
They have everything in the works for Battle.net. Achievements, single sign-on (that's why they already offer an option to merge WoW account into Battle.net account), matchmaking, statistics and most likely replays and other related stuff... and they already have online store for digital purchases (again, tied to the battle.net account). They are turning Battle.net into a Steam-like service for Blizzard products. I'm sure you'll be able to play with your buddies on a LAN - but only by matchmaking via Blizzard servers (which means no connection to Blizzard servers = no game).
You'd lose all those useful features anyway for a LAN-only game and it is not like you need a multi-megabit internet connection if you play with a set of friends that is on the LAN. I'm sure the actual play is still Peer-to-Peer.
It is useless to cry about this. Any sane PC game developer is going to tie their games to network connectivity. When it is done ONLY for DRM purposes it is annoying, but as soon as it offers additional features it becomes smart and, IMHO, acceptable. Live with it. It is a way to differentiate the genuine paid-for thing from the pirate copy.
So why on earth would they add LAN-only feature which will most of the time be used only for play between pirate copies? |
